HOW TO PREVENT INGROWN TOENAILS

The cause for ingrown nails varies tremendously from person to person, from arch type to shoe type, genetics to athletics. This becomes even more important as we age, since our immune system isn't as efficient and our tissues as vital.

Wearing shoes of sufficient width is an obvious one. Incorrect shoe size is an extremely common cause, since too many Americans are wearing the wrong size. For those of us with feet that pronate too much (the arch rolls down and in), an effective arch support can prevent pressure to the area of the toenail.

When there is excessive curvature of the nail, applying an antibiotic ointment to both nail edges and then trapping it in place with a band-aid can soothe the inflamed tissues of the nail groove. For permanent relief, permanent removal of the offending edges can be achieved quite comfortably with the use of radio-wave surgical technology.
